Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy (TUMP) was established in 1968 as a Campus of Mountainous Medical University (under the Decision No.116/CP dated July 23, 1968 of the Government Council). Up to now, the University’s name has been changed for 3 times: (i) Bac Thai Medical College (under the Decision No.33/CP dated January 24, 1979 of the Government Council), (ii) Thai Nguyen Medical University – a member-university of Thai Nguyen University (under Decree No.31/CP dated April 4, 1994 of the Government), (iii) Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy (under Decision No.1602/QĐ-TTg dated November 8th, 2008 of the Government).
The university has access to a number of clinical practice facilities, including Thai Nguyen National Hospital, specialized hospitals at provincial level, district hospitals in Thai Nguyen, and general hospitals in neighboring provinces, with modern equipment and a contingent of high-qualified visiting lecturers.
Along with continuously improving the quality of its training, the university also continues to develop and expand the types of training offered, to meet the requirements of society. Currently, formal and continuous training for six undergraduate disciplines are offered: Medical Doctor, Doctor of Preventive Medicine, Doctor of Odonto-Stomatology, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology. Postgraduate training comprises 33 specialties including doctorate degree, specialization level 2, master's degree, resident doctor, specialization level 1, and others. Every year, a range of short-term and continuous education courses are offered, designed to meet the current needs of society, which is highly appreciated.
