Description of the program

Internal Medicine Residency Program helps students to have solid skills and become practical instructors, especially in the specialty students do in their dissertation.

Each year, 15 to 20 students are enrolled. The students who apply for the program must have obtained good or excellent doctor degree of medicine. The residency program is taught in Vietnamese.

This program consists of 150 credits, including modules in the following general subjects: philosophy, informatics, teaching methods, scientific research methods, and English level C. Other subjects belonging to the basic and supportive groups are: pathophysiology, immunology, oncology–anatomical pathology, emergency intensive care, and infectious diseases. The modules in the specialized group are: cardiology, and diseases of the respiratory tract, digestive tract, urinary tract, as well as endocrinology, hematology, and the musculoskeletal system. Immediately after completing the scientific research and specialized modules, students are allowed to choose the thesis outline, and are assigned supervisors. The faculty team includes: Professors, Associate Professors, PhDs and Specialists II who are assigned in accordance with their specialty. In the specialized modules, students learn theory together with practice in clinical departments of practice hospitals. Students can directly participate in medical examination, treatment, and procedures together with clinical teachers, and discuss cases with them. At the same time, students must complete their data collection, finding references, data processing and essay writing on schedule.

Each student is assessed through clinical tests, knowledge tests using MCQ questionnaires, and thematic overview reports. After completing the modules, students must defend their dissertation to the Professional Council.

Employment after completing the program

After graduation, students can work at public health authorities, at Department of Internal Medicine in national, provincial or district hospitals, and in universities, colleges, and medical secondary schools.

They may also continue to the next levels of study: Specialist II in internal medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in internal medicine.
