Overview

Abstract:

This study aimed to analyze the structure of medicines used at Thai Nguyen City Medical Center in the first six months of 2025, thereby providing evidence to support medicine management and use at the facility. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using retrospective data on all 297 medicine items used from January 1 to June 30, 2025. Data were processed using Microsoft Excel 2016 and SPSS 26.0, and were presented by number of medicine items, use value, and percentage. The results showed that the total medicine use value was 8,984,600 thousand Vietnamese dong. Antiparasitic and anti-infective medicines accounted for the highest proportion of medicine items, at 25.3%; while hormones and medicines affecting the endocrine system had the highest use value, accounting for 34.1%. Domestically manufactured medicines accounted for 96.3% of medicine items and 89.1% of use value. According to ABC analysis, group A accounted for 13.5% of medicine items but represented 75.1% of use value. In the ABC/VEN matrix, group AE accounted for 53.0% of use value; group AN accounted for 1.0% of medicine items and 4.9% of use value. The findings indicate the need for continued monitoring of high-value medicines and non-essential medicines to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of medicine use.
