Overview

Abstract:

Background: Congenital heart defects are one of the most

common defects, accounting for 8-10/1000 live births.

Objectives: To evaluate the results of prenatal and postnatal

diagnosis of congenital heart defects at the National

Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1/2019 to 1/2022.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study of 293

pregnant women with congenital heart defects. The fetuses were

taken for amniocentesis and karyotyping. The characteristics of

prenatal and postnatal congenital heart defects were evaluated by

ultrasound. Results: 293 fetuses with congenital heart defects

were found with a total of 355 characteristics of heart defects, of

which, ventricular septal defect accounted for a large proportion

at 52.7%. 86.0% of fetuses had only 1 heart defect, and 14.7% of

fetuses had a combination of 2-3 heart defects. 53.2% of fetuses

had simple congenital heart defects and 46.8% of fetuses had

complex defects. The number of chromosomally abnormal fetuses

was 105/293, 35.8%. 105 cases were recorded at postpartum, and

the detection rate according to prenatal diagnosis was 87/105,

82.8%; There were 18 cases under the other diagnosis, in which 8

cases had no defects and 10 cases had other types of congenital

heart defects. Conclusions: Echocardiography is an effective

prenatal diagnostic method in diagnosing fetal heart

characteristics accurately. It can be combined with chromosomal

diagnosis to give the best pregnancy advice to pregnant women.
