Overview

Abstract:

This study aimed to assess burnout and analyze related factors among resident doctors at Thai

Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on

89 resident doctors from January to June 2025. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout

Inventory - Student Survey. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to

examine the association between risk factors and burnout status. The prevalence of burnout among

resident doctors in the study was 21,3%. In univariate analysis, sleeping less than 6 hours per day

increased the risk of burnout (OR = 3.600; 95% CI: 1.230 - 10.540; p = 0.016). Notably, moderate-

intensity physical exercise was a statistically significant independent protective factor that reduced

the risk of burnout (OR = 0.109; 95% CI: 0.012 - 0.967; p = 0.047) in both univariate and multivariate

analyses. Regular exercise and sufficient sleep play an important role in preventing burnout among

resident doctors and should be integrated into physical and mental health support programs.
