CHANGES IN QUALITY OF LIFE FOLLOWING BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A INJECTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH PRIMARY AXILLARY HYPERHIDROSIS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF DERMATOLOGY, THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL
Overview
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in quality-of-life following
treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis with Botulinum toxin A (BTX-A).
A mixed-methods study combining quantitative and qualitative approaches
was conducted in 36 patients treated with BTX-A at the Department of
Dermatology, Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Disease severity and quality of
life were assessed using the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS),
Hyperhidrosis Disease-Specific Measures–Axillary (HDSM-Ax), and
HidroQoL before and after treatment. In-depth interviews were also conducted
with 10 patients to further explore changes in quality of life. After treatment,
the mean HDSS score decreased from 2.9 to 1.4, while the mean HDSM-Ax
score decreased by 16.4 points. A total of 91.7% of patients reported an
improvement in symptoms, and no patients reported worsening of their
condition. The proportion of patients reporting no body odor or only very mild
body odor reached 91.6%. The mean quality-of-life score increased from 4.9 to
