Overview
Abstract:
Alcohol abuse causes numerous health problems, including non- communicable diseases, injuries, mental disorders, and serious social consequences. This study aimed to describe the current status of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding alcohol use among medical students at several medical universities in Vietnam. A cross- sectional descriptive study was conducted among medical students. The results showed that the proportions of students with good knowledge of alcohol use and its harms and with positive attitudes toward alcohol use were 62.3% and 41.8%, respectively. The mean age at initiation of alcohol use was 18.03 ± 2.50 years. The proportion of students who used alcohol to relieve stress was 26.0%, and 25.8% reported having driven after drinking alcohol or beer. The proportions of medical students with adequate knowledge, positive attitudes, and appropriate practices regarding alcohol use remains suboptimal.
