DEPRESSION IN 1ST, 2ND YEAR STUDENTS OF THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN THE 4TH WAVE OF COVID

Abstract:
The article describes the impact of COVID-19 on depression of 416 1st
and 2nd year general medical students at Thai Nguyen University of
Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022. The study used a cross-sectional
descriptive research method. Chisquare test is used to analyze the
relationship between a number of factors to the mental health of the study
subjects. Research results show that, during the ongoing epidemic, the
factor that worries students the most is the complication of "post-COVID19 syndrome" after infection (64.42%); fear of poor school due to illness
(58.89%); fear of sick relatives and friends (57.69%). At the time of the
study, the most common depression problems among students were:
difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering details (59.62%); fatigue
(48.32%); insomnia, waking up early or sleeping too much (44.23%);
persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or “emptiness” (32.45%); difficult
to make decisions (31.97%). Analysis of the relationship showed that the
gender factor and the household economy of the study subjects were
related to the number of psychological trauma factors appearing in the
study subjects (p<0.05). In summary, COVID-19 affects the depression
of 1st and 2nd year General Medicine students at Thai Nguyen University
of Medicine and Pharmacy
