Overview

Abstract:

Nasopharyngeal cancer is the 9th most common cancer in Vietnam. This study aimed to evaluate the results of concurrent chemoradiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer using dose-modulated technique at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. The study was conducted on 53 patients with stage IIIVA nasopharyngeal cancer, diagnosed by histopathology, treated with concurrent intensity-modulated radiotherapy with Cisplatin at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from June 2022 to June 2025. The study was conducted using a descriptive, cross-sectional design. The study results showed no statistically significant difference between tumor response and some clinical characteristics such as age group, Performance Status score (ECOG PS), concurrent chemotherapy regimen or radiotherapy fractionation. The overall response rate of stage III patients was 77.1%, higher than that of stage IVA patients (30.0%), the difference was statistically significant with p=0.009. The study concluded that concurrent chemoradiotherapy using intensity-modulated radiotherapy was highly effective in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal cancer; the earlier the disease stage, the higher the complete response rate.
