EVALUATION OF MECHANICAL THROMBECTOMY USING THE SOLUMBRA TECHNIQUE AT THAI NGUYEN CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Overview
Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate reperfusion efficacy, 90-day functional outcome and safety of the Solumbra technique in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion treated at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study included 56 patients with large-vessel occlusion who underwent mechanical thrombectomy using the Solumbra technique between November 2023 and November 2025. The main variables were baseline clinical characteristics, TICI reperfusion grade, first-pass effect (FPE), 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS), and safety outcomes. Results: The mean age was 66.3 ± 8.7 years, and men accounted for 51.8% of the cohort. Successful reperfusion (TICI 2b-3) was achieved in 91.1% of patients, including 58.9% with TICI 3 and 33.9% with FPE. At 90 days, 42.9% achieved good functional outcome (mRS 0-2), 19.6% achieved mRS 0-1, and mortality was 7.1%. Hemorrhagic transformation occurred in 25.0% of cases, and no procedural complications were recorded. Patients with FPE had shorter puncture-to-reperfusion time and a higher rate of favorable outcome. Conclusion: In this cohort, the Solumbra technique achieved a high reperfusion rate with acceptable feasibility and safety. Better-quality reperfusion, particularly FPE, was associated with more favorable 90-day functional outcomes.
