Overview

Abstract:

Background: Knowledge of breast cancer and self-breast examination’ knowledge plays an important role, however knowledge of breast cancer and self-breast examination’ knowledge among women are still low. Moreover, the researches on this field among the groups of pupil and student is still limited. Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe related factors of breast cancer’s knowledge and self-breast examination’ knowledge among nursing students in Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmarcy. Methods: The cross-sectional study design was applied in this study. The systematic sampling technique was used to recruit 188 first and second year students. Results: The knowledge of students about breast cancer and self-breast examination’ knowledge were limited. Students who had sufficient knowledge of breast cancer were 47.3% while students who had sufficient self-breast examination’ knowledge were 34.6%. Students who were class leader or attended in extracurricular activities were found as significant factors of breast cancer and self-breast examination’ knowledge while year of study and ethnicity were not. Conclusions: The knowledge of students about breast cancer and self-breast examination’ knowledge were still limited.
