Formulation of topical gel containing lornoxciam
Overview
Abstract:
The objectives of
this study were to prepare topical gel containing lornoxicam for improved skin penetration of lornoxicam (LNX) for enhancement
of its analgesic,
anti-inflammation activity and
to evaluate the impacts of different penetration enhancers on the in vitro diffusion of lornoxicam.
The effect of addition of oleic acid, dimethyl sulfoxid (DMSO), l-menthol on
physical properties of the gel and drug permeation was studied. The in-vitro diffusion
studies showed a higher and faster release of lornoxicam from the gel
containing DMSO than that from
the gel containing oleic acid
and l-menthol. DMSO exhibited enhanced permeation of lornoxicam
from gel formulation. This work shows that lornoxicam can be formulated into Carbopol gel in presence
of propylen
glycol and polyethylen glycol as solvent, Carbopol
as polymer and DMSO may be
promising in enhancing permeation.
