Overview

Abstract:

Purpose: To evaluate the autologous fibrin glue efficiency for conjuntival graft adherance in primary pterygium surgery. Methods: The prospective interventional case series of 45 eyes with primary pterygium grade II. On the operation day, fibrinogen and thrombin were prepared from patients’own blood. A 1:1 ratio of fibrinogen and thrombin solution was applied for atchement the conjuntival autograft. To evaluate outcomes of the graft adherence, pain, surgical time and recurences after surgery. Results: The conjuntival grafts were adhered in 43/45 eyes (95,6%), conjuntival autograft were appropriately attached in 32/45 eyes (71,11%), 2 eye with graft dehiscence. In the first postoperative day, ocular pain was recorded as midlle grade in 37 eyes (86%). The average time surgery was 28,5 ± 2,7 minutes. The result was good in 86% after 3 months and no reccurence case was found 10 months follow-up. Conclusions: Autologous fibrin glue is a prospective option, simple, safe and effective for graft fixation in pterygium surgery.
