Overview

Abstract:

In this study, the adsorbent material was prepared from snail shells using ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid as a denaturing agent. The scanning

electron microscopy, specific surface area according to BET, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of the

original snail shell powder sample and the prepared adsorbent material were studied. In addition, some factors affecting the adsorption process of

Direct red 79 dye on the prepared adsorbent material was investigated. The results showed that the best conditions for adsorption were pH 3, contact time of 90 minutes with a material mass of 0.125 g/25 mL of solution. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm model which was the best among the three models Langmuir, Freundlich and Tempkin surveyed. According to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model, the maximum adsorption capacity was determined to be 10.78 mg/g at room temperature (25 ± 1 oC); the adsorption process of Direct red 79 on the studied material follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and was exothermic. The research results of this paper open up a direction for effective, low-cost, friendly and sustainable enviromental treatment.
