TREATMENT OUTCOMES OF XANTHELASMA PALPEBRARUM WITH CO2 LASER AT 108 MILITARY CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Overview
Abstract:
This study was conducted to evaluate the treatment outcomes of xanthelasma
palpebrarum using CO2 laser at 108 Military Central Hospital. We performed
a prospective, self-controlled (before – after) interventional study on 51
patients with xanthelasma palpebrarum treated with CO2 laser at the Aesthetic
Center, 108 Military Central Hospital, from January 2025 to April 2026. The
results showed that the mean number of treatment sessions was 1.4 ± 0.5;
60.8% of patients achieved excellent results after a single session, 98.0%
achieved excellent results and completed treatment after two sessions, and
100% after three sessions. The lesion area decreased from 3.7 ± 5.5 cm² to
0.5 ± 1.1 cm² after the first session and to zero after the third session; the
complete clearance rate increased from 58.8% after the first session to 98.0%
after the second (p < 0.001). Pain during treatment was low, with 90.2% of
patients reporting no pain or mild pain, and the rate of satisfied and highly
satisfied patients reached 98.0%. Long-term adverse effects were mainly
post-inflammatory pigmentary disorders, including hypopigmentation
(52.9%), hyperpigmentation (21.6%) and hypertrophic scarring (11.8%). The
recurrence rate was 10.6% at 3 months, 25.7% at 6 months and 25.0% at 9
months, occurring mainly in patients with dyslipidemia. The study indicates
that CO2 laser is an effective, safe and low-pain treatment for xanthelasma
palpebrarum with high patient satisfaction;
