The training program for Specialist doctor level I helps learners, after graduation can practice proficiently in the diagnosis, management, prognosis and prevention of some common diseases. They will be able to master some common internal medicine procedure, guide colleagues in career practice. In addition, they can use some medical devices in diagnosis and treatment.

Each year, 30-40 learners are enrolled. They are admitted to the program through the university’s entrance examination process. The program is taught in Vietnamese.

The program consists of basic courses, basic specialty courses and professional courses. The basic courses are philosophy, English, research methodology, and informatics while the basic specialty courses include clinical pharmacy physiology, and emergency resuscitation. The professional courses comprise of the following subjects: cardiology, respiratory, digestive system, urinary, endocrinology, hematology, and osteoarthritis. Teaching for the program are professors, associate professors, doctors of philosophy, and specialist doctor level II who are assigned in accordance with the majors. In the professional modules, learners can learn the theory in parallel with practice at clinical departments of practical hospitals. There, learners can directly participate in medical examination, treatment, and procedures, and discuss clinical cases with clinical teachers. Each learner is assessed through clinical tests, MCQs based knowledge tests, and thematic overview reports.

Employment after completing the program

After graduation, learners can work at state health management agencies, department of internal medicine in national, provincial and district hospitals, for medical universities and colleges.

Next level of study: Learners can continue to study the Specialist Doctor level II in Internal Medicine or Master of Internal Medicine.
